Hutchison’s Requirements

Hutchison 3G were using a Point of Sale (POS) system, but were ready for a more sophisticated system. A system that would provide improved asset control and efficiency plus advanced information reporting capabilities.

Why ABT?

Hutchison 3G was looking for a partner to deploy an Australia-wide fully integrated system, on time and on budget, and provide reliable maintenance and support.

A Unique Set of Challenges

ABT’s experience in deploying fully integrated POS systems was exactly what Hutchison needed for their unique and challenging environment.

ABT was required to adapt their POS solution to comply with Hutchison’s existing infrastructure. This minimises cost, lowers risk and allows for accelerated deployment. ABT met these challenges because of their ability to deploy their solutions across a wide variety of platforms and databases.

A major challenge faced by ABT was integration of the new POS solution with Hutchison’s legacy financial, distribution, payment processing and business intelligences systems. ABT then had to adapt the ABT POS system to Hutchison’s existing infrastructure.

Interface design required collaboration between the Hutchison Project Team and ABT which included the full gamut of store operations, asset management, technical infrastructure, accounting, training personnel and support staff.

The Solution

ABT built the Hutchison solution using ABT’s proven POS technology, including Pronto Xi and ABT’s custom software. The system was deployed on the robust Oracle database and operates on a Sun Solaris server, providing a high standard of reliability that Hutchison mandated.

The Hutchison solution commenced with the development of a design based on business analysis and numerous design workshops involving Hutchison personnel and the ABT consulting team.

After design sign-off by Hutchison, ABT produced detailed technical specifications for all modifications and interfaces which resulted in the delivery of a system that met the business needs

Throughout the project, ABT’s proven and sophisticated implementation methodology was employed to ensure that the more than 42 project team members were managed and directed to deliver the required outcome, on time and on budget.
