ABT Group Newsletter Issue 1

Welcome to the first, we hope of many, ABT Group newsletters. We hope you will find the content useful and interesting. Our intention with this newsletter is to inform rather than push a particular ABT barrow.

Even if ABT weren’t Australia’s leading Pronto software distributor it would be remiss of us not to discuss the new Pronto Xi Dimensions software launch. So away we go.

Reg King, CEO ABT Group

Pronto Xi Dimensions launch - Adding BI to ERP

Perhaps the most talked about feature of new PRONTO Xi Dimensions release is the embedding of IBM BI (business intelligence) application, IBM Cognos 10, inside Xi.

Essentially this adds a quality BI solution to Pronto's recognised ERP application at a price point that may have previously been out of reach of mid-size companies.

Internationally more than 23,000 leading companies and organisations use IBM Cognos to help them understand their business performance and make better strategic decisions.

The combination of Pronto's ERP savvy and the Cognos 10 BI applications will allow companies to both run their business effectively and also track and improve the speed of internal decision making.

Cognos 10 and PRONTO-Xi: ready to work straight out of the box.

As far as background into Cognos goes, Cognos 10 is the first major BI release from IBM, since Cognos 8 was released in 2005. That is a long time between versions. As such Cognos 10 presents a more integrated user interface along with a broader offering of analytics and technology for the application. The recent acquisitions by IBM of SPSS, TM1 (Applix) and Clarity are now part of the Cognos 10 offering.

The goal of Cognos 10 is to focus on integrating a broader role for BI into the decision making process with the ability to actually record and track decisions and then measure results against them.

And for the pedantic among us – why was the new version called Cognos 10, and not Cognos 9, which was the next logical naming convention for the application following the previous Cognos 8 release?

A great team – ABT and ProntoAs best as we can tell, reasons centered around two areas; Firstly, Cognos 10 is considered a major release and thus warrants being a 10 not a 9. And secondly, TM1 (Applix) already has a 9.x release on the market.

As Australia's leading Pronto distributor ABT have an intimate understanding of the new Pronto Xi Dimensions software and how it can be optimised for your business.

The ABT Executive Luncheon Series

ABT Executive Luncheon Series

Last year saw the establishment of the ABT Executive Luncheons.

Our plan with the Executive Luncheon series is to bring together select groups of influential CEO's in an environment encouraging open discussion of business issues. So far all three luncheons have been very successful, and I believe beneficial to all involved.

ABT Executive LuncheonsAt the last luncheon held in August this year Brad Higgs, Principle, Corporate Finance with Crowe Horwath spoke on the topic of "Business acquisitions in the current market".

Brad gave us an invaluable look at how to succesfully manage new acquisitions; how to interpret findings and due dilligence; valuation metrics and the treatment of synergies; plus debt V's equity and how to attract investment.

If you are interested in attending the ABT Executive Luncheon series, please contact Lisa Coates on

ABT proudly supporting The Lynne King Cancer Care Foundation

The Lynne King Cancer Care FoundationAnd lastly something that is very dear to my heart, ABT's involvement with the Lynne King Cancer Care Foundation.

The purpose of the Foundation is to help those with cancer who through personal circumstances need financial, emotional or medical support. And unlike other larger charities, every dollar raised goes directly to those in need, not on internal admin costs.

The foundation's annual dinner was held on Saturday July 30, and was a huge success. It was a fun filled night for corporate and private guests raising over $40,000 in much needed funds.

Book now for Saturday, 1st September 2012.

The Lynne King Cancer Care Foundation

It's always a great night out, and 2012 will be no exception with a marvellous line up of live entertainment planned.
To secure your tickets for next year's annual gala dinner please call Lisa Coates on 9878 7112.
